The Republic of Komi
The Republic of Komi is located in the north-eastern extreme of the Russia's European part with its area embracing the western slopes of the Urals within the Northern, Circumpolar and Polar Urals.
The Republic's total area is 416 800 km2 which is 2,4% of the Russian total area. The longest distance is from south-west to north-east (1 275 km). The distance from Moscow to Syktyvkar, the capital of the Republic, is 1 200 km.
Komi is a multinational state: here 1,16 mln people live representing over 100 nations and ethnic groups. The average age of workable population is 38 years.
The Republic is a constituent subject to the Russian Federation being sovereign over its territory. Being an independent participant of foreign economic relations, Komi is entitled to enter into economic and trade agreements with Russian and overseas business partners.
State authority in Komi is vested by the Head of the Republic of Komi, the State Council of the Republic of Komi, and the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Komi.
